Utahns Against Hunger works state-wide to disseminate information about the federal nutrition programs.
UAH does this in a number of ways:
- Distribute program fliers through emergency food pantries,
- Train emergency food pantry staff to screen clients for Food Stamp eligibility,
- Educate the public about hunger issues in Utah through stories in the media and information tables at community events,
- Educate community groups, students and congregations about hunger and the needs of low-income Utahns.
Utahns Against Hunger facilitates food drives for local emergency food pantries state-wide. UAH gets phone calls from students, Boy Scouts, and other youth groups who are looking for a service project, UAH can assist in finding local emergency food providers who can organize a food drive. If you are looking for a service project, call UAH at 328-2561 or toll-free at 1-800-453-3663.
Share-the-Harvest has been a long-time project of UAH, it is an opportunity for individuals to donate their excess summer produce. Share-the-Harvest is now run by local church groups in Ogden and Salt Lake, these events generally happen in September. If you are interested in volunteering or donating to any of these events call UAH and we can put you in contact with the appropriate person.
Grow-A-Row is another community based project that is organized by UAH, we encourage church congregations, civic groups and the general public to "grow a row" for the hungry in their home gardens. We encourage these gardeners to donate their extra produce to their local emergency food providers. If you need assistance in locating a pantry near you, contact UAH. |
